Ari Lennox

Courtney Shanade Salter, born April 26, 1991, also known professionally under the surname Ari Lennox, hails from Washington, D.C. and is the first female artist to be signed by J. Cole's Dreamville Records label. Her first single was released from the label on October 21 of 2016, entitled Pho, and she was able to begin gaining attention. Shea Butter Baby, her debut studio album, came out on in May 7th, 2019. Ari Lennox uploaded her first music on the internet in 2012. The singer released her debut album the single Five Finger Discount in 2013 and Ariography EP in 2013. She continued to share her music over the internet, including her independently released single Bound. In 2015she sung on Omen's Elephant Eyes Album, performing the track "Sweat it out" on 21st July. In the following year, her music was circulating around the Dreamville team as J. Cole wanted her to collaborate with him on some potential references to Rihanna. On the 8th of December, it was reported that she had signed to Dreamville Records. Backseat, a track which she co-wrote alongside Cozz to record the Revenge of the Dreamers II collaborative album. Then, in October 2016 she dropped her debut EP Pho. Ari Lennox later appeared on J. Cole's song Change in 2017 and also as an opening act for the 4 Your Eyez Only Tour in 2017. She also appeared as a guest artist on two tracks, including EarthGang's Nothing but the Best song and Bas' Icarus. Ari Lennox debuted her first single from Shea Butter Baby, Whipped Cream on July 16, 2018. A music video was later released in September. The 9th of November saw her release two other singles, 40 Shades of Choke and Grampa. Then on November 13 two singles that were titled The No One and pedigree. Later, she was featured on the Creed II soundtrack with Cole on a track titled Shea Butter Baby on November 16, which was then released as a single on February 26th, 2019 for her debut album of the same title. A music video was released on the 20th February of 2019 in conjunction with the song. Within the first week, it was watched by more than 3,000,000 people. She was the opening act for 6LACK in the From East Atlanta With Love Tour in December, 2018.
